A Host Family is a family willing to have short term guests in their home and able to make an outsider feel like a member of their own family. They generate warmth and friendliness while possessing a reasonable degree of stability and security. The host family provide meals, a bed and language exchange for their student, who will participate in family life and will expect to be treated as a member of the family.
We are a young, lively and vibrant family with lots of interests, particularly music. We love nothing more than to sit around the computer choosing different songs from around the world to sing or dance along to. Many of our students have musical abilities and we often get together for a jamming session. We have a drum kit, keyboards, guitars and more instruments.
We are also entertainers providing entertainment, music and singing for children / adults parties. Visit our website!
Your host mum is Sharon. I enjoy people, and I have been a singer and entertainer for more than 15 years. For the past years we have had a childcare business looking after children from our home and for more than 20 years we have looked after students. My husband is Greg and we work together in all that we do. We have 5 children. Shannon is the oldest, a fantastic singer and entertainer. Conor is very funny, he plays golf, videogames, skateboard and enjoys people. Riley is kind and happy, Rosie is feisty but funny, and Danny, the youngest, is caring and loving. All the children take great pleasure in mixing with the students and are good teachers of English.
We also have a love for dogs. We have our own dog called Patch (a young labrador) but often have a guest dog. Many of our friends have dogs and when they go on holiday their dogs come to stay with us.
Warmley is situated between Bristol and Bath. Both cities are about 20 minutes by car. Our family home is in a quiet road but is within 5 minutes walk of a large complex with swimming pool, gym, cinema, ASDA supermarket which is open 24 hours, restaurants, pubs, bowling and more shops. Kingswood and Keynsham are 15 minutes by bus. Both these small villages contain shopping centers and job centers. This will be the first step if you are looking for a job.
There are many buses to Bristol and Bath city centers frequently. The train station is 20 minutes and the airport is within half an hour. It takes 2 hours by car to get to London and only 1 hour to get to Cardiff. Bristol is truly an amazing and cultural city with everything you need.
Will the students have to follow house rules?
Yes. The students are expected to behave as members of the family and follow all of the rules and expectations of the household. We are honests and open about our house rules.
May our students share a bedroom with other students?
Yes. Normally families do not have enough bedrooms in their home to accommodate a language student with a private bedroom. We require only that students share a room with students of the same gender, be given his or her own bed, space for his or her belongings and a place to study.
What if I require English lessons?
We are able to provide English lessons at a cost of £6 per hour per group of students. By having your lessons at the house enables you to keep the cost of public transport down and the overall cost of your stay is much more affordable.
Do you cater for Vegetarians?
We talk to our guests and find out how to provide the most suitable food to satisfy their needs.
How long can a guest stay?
Our guests are here for many reasons. The majority of time it is to learn the English language. A stay can be from any period to one year.
Do I have to pay a deposit?
For the moment a deposit is not required but you will be required to pay for at least your first month on arrival. If staying for less than 1 month then the weekly amount is required at the beginning of each week. We are working on a paypal account. As soon as this is set up then a deposit will be required.
